Bag a Corbett in May and raise money for Mountain Aid

With bank holiday weekend just around the corner, were you thinking of going walking but not 100% certain, well after reading this that’s your plans sorted.

Or more specifically the Scottish hills. A charity wants you to head to the hills before the end of May.

Mountain Aid, wants all 222 of the nations Corbett’s climbed during May, with the challenge Corbetts4Courses.

The money raised from the event will be used to provide free navigation, winter skills and outdoor first aid training courses, along with free winter mountain safety lectures at venues across the country.

The charity also puts on skills for the Hills and Scottish Mountain Safety Days. These events offer hikers and walkers a chance to meet and engage with the agencies involved in the great Scottish outdoors.

So its simple challenge. Corbetts4Courses wants you to pledge to summit on fo the Scottish peaks before the end of May. These peaks are between 2,500ft and 2,999ft high.

The organisation said while many of the hills have already been climbed or committed to there are still a good number to ascend, so your efforts are needed. Plus it’s a bank holiday weekend, what’s better than hitting the hills and raising a bit of money for charity.

A spokesperson said: “After a cold start to the month, the good weather is bringing out the hillwalkers and, now just over halfway through the month, the pace is picking up with 80 hills already climbed or committed – but there are still plenty to choose from.”

Anyone taking part is asked to make a donation to the fund, with £10 suggested, so not a huge amount.

The organisations have created a Facebook page specifically for the challenge so you can post your pictures on you on the summits.

Two online donations pages have also been created on PayPal and Virgin Money Giving.

Come on do your bit and head for the Scottish hills this bank holiday weekend.
